Water Availability Study

Water Availability Study
Project Location: Mondulkiri Province, Cambodia
Client: Olam

The aim of this project was to assess the amount of water available in a site acquired by the client for a plantation in Mondulkiri Province. This water availability assessment was based on a simplified water balance on the catchment area at a monthly scale, using the data provided by the client regarding topography, meteorology and geology.

After identifying the watershed corresponding to the project site, AE analyzed the rainfall data provided and assessed the infiltration, evapotranspiration and runoff. AE then estimated the crop water needs for the expected plantation and calculated the volume of additional water needed to grow peppercorn throughout the year. Technical recommendations were also provided regarding water harvesting and storage.
