Mr. Susanto (VP AE Indonesia) designed this 100% off-grid solar PV system based on his extensive knowledge and research of the power and energy demands of 2G/3G BTS equipment.  In addition to designing and engineering the system, Mr. Susanto was also ultimately responsible for the procurement of the major components and the project management/construction of this project.

Since it was erected in 2012, the system has never had a reported power outage.  Designed to be 100% off-grid as a pilot project and to prove to BTS operators that such a system can work, the system is not connected to an automatic generator backup system.  It has the provision to be fully automated and work as a hybrid system.  When the second BTS antenna and transceiver is installed for additional capacity or for an additional provider, the system will be connected to an automated generator system and it will work as a hybrid CDC (Charge-DisCharge) system.

Currently the system is saving the tower operator about $8000/year on fuel and maintenance of the generator, which has been fully replaced by this solar PV system.  In addition, under Mr. Susanto’s supervision, this installation was called “the best installation I’ve seen in Indonesia” by a World Bank consultant who visited the site.
